Wheel Balancers for Cars, Light Trucks and Commercial Vehicles
This category lists 34 orderable wheel balancers and balancer packages from eight brands: Hofmann, CEMB, Corghi, Ranger, APEX, iDEAL, Tire Service International and JMC Equipment. Three further models - the Hofmann Monty 1270 + geodyna 7100 combo, the Corghi ET88M/WL and the CEMB ER100GT - are listed but not currently orderable; call for availability. The range runs from a keypad-entry tire balancing machine for a one-bay shop up to heavy-duty truck and bus units rated for a 550 lb. wheel. All of it is new equipment. Below is what separates one wheel balancing machine from another, using the numbers printed on each model's own spec sheet.
The Four Numbers That Decide the Purchase
- Rim diameter range - the bare wheel the machine mounts and measures. The Corghi PL60 covers 10 in. to 24 in., the JMC Equipment WB-CB66-VE covers 10 in. to 28 in., and the CEMB line (EZ10, EZ15, ER71, ER72, ER72SE, ER73, ER75, MOVE and ER100GT) is rated to a maximum rim diameter of 30 in. (765 mm).
- Maximum tire or overall diameter - the mounted assembly with the hood closed, and a much larger number. The CEMB EZ10 and EZ15 take a rim up to 30 in. but a tire only up to 36 in. (914 mm); the ER71 and the ER100GT take that same 30 in. rim with a tire up to 40 in. (1016 mm); and the ER72, ER72SE, ER73, ER75 and MOVE reach 42 in. (1067 mm). A shop running tall off-road tires on 20 in. wheels is limited by this number, not the rim number.
- Maximum wheel weight - what the shaft and bearings are rated to spin. Read the label on the line, because the listings here are not uniform. Machines that publish a maximum wheel weight run 143 lb. (Corghi PL60), 145 lb. (APEX AB28), 150 lb. (JMC WB-CB66-VE, iDEAL WB-953-B-MCAB-K), 154 lb. (Hofmann geodyna 7000-series, Corghi Service Pro 750), 165 lb. (the CEMB passenger line and the ER100GT) and 187 lb. (Corghi EM9780-C). Truck machines jump to 441 lb. (Corghi ET88M/WL) and 550 lb. (Hofmann geodyna 980L, CEMB C330 and C350). Five listings publish a maximum tire weight instead: 145 lb. (Ranger LS45DS), 330 lb. (Corghi ET1450 WL, Ranger RB30T and RS-RB30T) and 400 lb. (Ranger RB24T). Confirm which figure applies to your mounted assembly.
- Rim width range - quietly the most common mismatch, because the automatic measuring range is often narrower than the manual one. The Hofmann geodyna 7200S, 7400L and 7600P measure width automatically from 3 in. to 15 in. but accept 1 in. to 20 in. entered by hand. The APEX AB28 is listed at 4 in. to 15 in. If you balance dually steel wheels, check this line.
Types of Wheel Balancer in This Category
Keypad Entry
The operator measures and types in distance, diameter and width. Fewer sensors, less to calibrate, lowest cost of entry. The Corghi PL60 works this way, with DYNAMIC and STATIC modes plus 3 ALU programs and four cones standard, spinning at 200 rpm with an average measurement time of 7 seconds. The JMC Equipment WB-CB66-VE is also keypad-driven, with 5 ALU standard and 2 ALU Smart modes, a laser that lights the weight position at 6 o'clock in ALUS mode, a 12 in. long 40 mm shaft and a 38 in. hood.
Semi-Automatic Gauge Arm
The technician touches the rim once and the machine enters distance and diameter itself, then selects the weight mode. This is the Hofmann geodyna 7100, 7100M, 7200S, 7400L and 7600P, all using easyALU assisted rim measurement; the 7100M, 7200S, 7400L and 7600P add smartSonar, which reads rim width with sonar so it does not have to be typed. On the 7200S, 7400L and 7600P the sonar band runs 3 in. to 15 in., and anything outside it is entered by hand, from 1 in. to 20 in.; the 7100M lists the same 1 in. to 20 in. span for both its semi-automatic and its manual width range. The Corghi Service Pro 750 does the same with its FSP SMART ARM up to 26 in., and the CEMB ER71 uses an automatic gauge on rims up to 28 in.
Automatic and Laser Data Entry
These machines read the rim without a gauge arm. Only the Corghi EM9780-C listing claims a fully contactless cycle - it works without ever touching the wheel and clamps automatically; the others still clamp by hand or by Power Clamp, and the geodyna 8200P keeps a gauge arm and manual ranges as a fallback. The Hofmann geodyna 8200P (EEWB766BEA) and 7800P (EEWB753BEB) detect wheel dimensions automatically and add a laser scanner that finds the number and position of the rim spokes to hide split weights behind them. The Corghi EM9780-C pairs an internal laser sensor with an external Sonar AWD sensor, averaging 7 seconds on a 14 kg wheel. The CEMB MOVE uses 2-hit laser technology, where a spotter laser and a line laser measure the rim and then mark the exact weight location; it clamps manually, and at a 66 lb. machine weight it is built for mobile service. The Ranger LS45DS uses 3D Auto Data Entry with a 7-second cycle; its Laser-Spot laser marks where the weight goes rather than measuring the rim, and the wheel mounts on a quick-release hub nut.
Heavy-Duty Truck and Bus
These are not passenger machines with bigger cones. The Hofmann geodyna 980L takes a wheel up to 51 in. at up to 550 lb. and includes a heavy-duty wheel lift and a 4/5 arm star adaptor. The CEMB C330 and C350 use a built-in lift spindle and a dual-speed motor drive so one machine covers cars, light trucks and heavy commercial wheels, averaging 10 to 20 seconds per cycle. The Corghi ET1450 WL adds an air-powered scissor lift and inverter-controlled spin at 80 rpm for truck wheels and 100 rpm for car wheels. The Corghi ET88M/WL runs a 46 mm shaft with a built-in pneumatic lift its listing rates for wheels up to 200 kg, a 19 in. LCD monitor and average measuring times of 6 seconds on a car wheel and 18 seconds on a truck wheel, all on 110V, 1 Ph. The Ranger RB24T and RB30T use a 40 mm shaft, a self-centering quick-chuck adapter and a pneumatic brake; the RB24T also lists an integrated wheel lift, which the RB30T and RS-RB30T listings do not.
On-Vehicle Strobe, and Combo Packages
Two Tire Service International items work differently. The 501A Electronic Strobe Balancer is an on-vehicle strobe indicator, not a stand-alone machine: its listing calls it the companion component to the 525 Wheel Spinner and lists that spinner as an optional accessory sold separately, so budget both if you want on-vehicle balancing. Its listing notes that balancing on the vehicle also balances the rotor or drum and hub assembly, with a flashing strobe marking weight placement. The 525 Heavy Duty Spinner is 7.5 HP, 220 V, 3 Phase. Three JMC Equipment combo packages pair a Tuxedo WB-953 balancer with a tire changer: CK-TC530-WB953, CK-TC950-WB953 and CK-TC950WPA-WB953. The WB-953 handles a 10 in. to 24 in. rim and an overall diameter up to 39 in. at 150 lb. A fourth package, HOFCOMBO1, pairs the Hofmann monty 1270 swing-arm tire changer with the geodyna 7100 balancer described above; that listing publishes no specifications of its own.
How the Wheel Is Held
Clamping drives cycle time more than buyers expect, because it repeats on every wheel. Manual quick nut or speed nut covers the CEMB ER71, ER72, ER73, EZ10, EZ15 and MOVE, the Hofmann geodyna 7100, 7200S and 7400L, the APEX AB28 No-mar Quick-Nut and the Tuxedo and JMC speed-nut units. Pneumatic clamping is on the CEMB ER75, which uses a patented pneumatic wheel locking system, the ER72SE, which ships with a pneumatic locking kit as standard, and the ER100GT, which uses the same patented pneumatic wheel locking; all three are listed at 220V, 1 ph plus air. Electromechanical Power Clamp holds the wheel at constant force on the geodyna 7100M, 7600P, 7800P and 8200P, and the Corghi EM9780-C clamps from a wireless button rather than a foot pedal.
Three spec-sheet conflicts are worth flagging. The CEMB ER72SE title contains both "Manual Clamping" and "(Pneumatic Clamping)"; its spec table lists Pneumatic and its feature list states a pneumatic locking kit is standard, so pneumatic is correct. The CEMB C350 feature text says rim diameters up to 30 in. while its spec table lists up to 32 in. (812 mm) - the table is the reliable figure. And the C350 spec table lists a maximum tire diameter of 54 in. but converts it as 1067 mm, which is 42 in.; the C330 publishes the consistent 54 in. (1372 mm). The same pair disagrees on the metric equivalent of the 550 lb. capacity - 200 kg on the C330, 250 kg on the C350. Confirm the C350 figures before committing to a tall commercial tire.
What Your Shop Needs to Run One
Electrical. The most common installation surprise. On standard single-phase 110-115V: the Hofmann geodyna 7100, 7100M, 7200S, 7400L, 7600P and 980L; the CEMB EZ10, EZ15, ER71 and MOVE; the Corghi PL60, Service Pro 750, ET1450 WL (110V 1Ph, 370 W) and ET88M/WL (110V 1Ph, 320 W); and the JMC WB-CB66-VE, the iDEAL WB-953-B-MCAB-K and the three JMC combo packages (110V, 15 Amp, 1PH). Requiring 220-240V: the CEMB ER72, ER72SE, ER73, ER75, ER100GT, C330 and C350; the Hofmann 7800P and 8200P; and every Ranger model here (208-240V, 50/60 Hz, 1 Ph). The APEX AB28 and Corghi EM9780-C are listed at 115-230V. Three phase: the Tire Service International 525 spinner is listed at 7.5 HP, 220 V, 3 Phase - the only three-phase machine on this page; its 501A strobe companion publishes no electrical specification at all. Note also that the Ranger RB24T lists a single-phase 208-240V supply but a 1.5 HP, 380V, 3 Ph drive motor, while the RB30T states a solid-state phase converter; confirm the RB24T's service with us before ordering.
Compressed air. Required by the CEMB ER72SE, ER75 and ER100GT, and by the C330 and C350, whose listings state they require compressed air and 230V, 1 ph. The Corghi ET1450 WL needs air for its scissor lift; the Corghi ET88M/WL lists a 6 to 15 bar pneumatic air supply for its built-in lift and brake; and the Ranger truck balancers use a pneumatic brake. The tire changers inside the three JMC combo packages work at 125 psi, with four pneumatic clamps and a pneumatic bead breaker. Only one listing on this page publishes an air-pressure figure for the balancer itself: the C330, at 145 psi. Check that against your compressor before you order. The remaining models in this category are listed as electric only.
Ceiling and floor space. Hood clearance is the constraint, not footprint. The Ranger LS45DS is 75 in. high with the guard up and 53 in. down. The Hofmann geodyna 980L is 76 x 55 x 54 in. (H x W x L), the 7400L and 7600P are 71 x 60 x 53 in. and the 8200P 65 x 54 x 53 in. The 7100 and 7100M are the lowest of that family at 59 x 51.5 x 52 in., but the 7200S has the smallest floor footprint at 72 x 46 x 47 in. - taller, and 5.5 in. narrower. The 7800P is tall but narrow at 72 x 34 x 52 in., and the Corghi EM9780-C has a compact patented guard designed to allow wall mounting. Where a listing does not publish dimensions, check that model's spec sheet before committing bay space.
Delivery. Published shipping weights run from 270 lb. (CEMB EZ10) up to 990 lb. (Ranger RB30T and RS-RB30T), with 825 lb. on the RB24T, 650 lb. on the CEMB C330 and C350 and 485 lb. on the CEMB ER100GT. Some listings publish machine weight instead of crate weight - the CEMB MOVE at 66 lb., the Corghi Service Pro 750 at 280 lb., the Corghi EM9780-C at 404 lb. and the Corghi ET88M/WL at 563 lb. - and the APEX AB28 publishes no weight at all. The Ranger and APEX listings state that it is the buyer's responsibility to unload the freight, so plan for a forklift or dock. Seven models here publish freight instead of shipping free: the JMC WB-CB66-VE at $355 per unit, the iDEAL WB-953-B-MCAB-K at $335, the CK-TC530-WB953 package at $455, and the CK-TC950-WB953 and CK-TC950WPA-WB953 packages at $515 each - all to the contiguous 48 states, with Alaska, Hawaii and remote or limited-access locations excluded and subject to an additional charge. Over two units, ask for a freight quote. The two Tire Service International units also ship on freight; call for a quote.
Diagnostics Beyond Simple Balance
Several models measure what a basic balancer cannot, which is what justifies the step up for a shop chasing a vibration complaint. The geodyna 8200P captures runout points at a resolution of 0.004 in. (0.1 mm) and reports radial runout peak-to-peak from the first to the third harmonic. The CEMB ER75 does RFV measurement with HubMatch, which finds the highest point of the wheel (1st harmonic) during the cycle so it can be indexed on the vehicle, plus two-plane rim bead eccentricity. The CEMB ER100GT is the deepest of the group: tread depth measured in three sections of the tire, Virtual Drift for wheel conicity with side-slip indication, two-plane rim bead eccentricity on the bare rim, Direct Matching that shows the optimal match in a single spin, and the same HubMatch first-harmonic detection. The CEMB C350 uses sonar for radial and lateral run-out. The Corghi EM9780-C lists Intelligent Positioning Lite, a set-level check of run-out and imbalance; its listing states that complete diagnosis requires the machine to be equipped with sonar run-out, and the model name identifies the diagnostics as optional, so confirm the configuration before ordering. Match mounting is offered on the geodyna 7400L, 7600P and 8200P.

Do I need a truck balancer, or will a passenger machine handle my light-truck work?
Compare your heaviest assembly against the machine's maximum wheel weight. Passenger and light-truck units here top out between 143 lb. and 187 lb.; a commercial steel wheel and tire will exceed that. Most of the truck units add a lift, because nobody hand-lifts that weight onto a shaft: the geodyna 980L has a heavy-duty wheel lift, the CEMB C330 and C350 a built-in lift spindle, the Corghi ET1450 WL an air-powered scissor lift, the Corghi ET88M/WL a built-in pneumatic lift, and the Ranger RB24T an integrated wheel lift. The Ranger RB30T and RS-RB30T listings do not publish a wheel lift - ask before you order if you need one.
Can I run one of these on standard shop power?
Many, yes. The Hofmann geodyna 7100, 7100M, 7200S, 7400L, 7600P and the 980L, the CEMB EZ10, EZ15, ER71 and MOVE, the Corghi PL60 and Service Pro 750, the JMC WB-CB66-VE and the iDEAL WB-953-B-MCAB-K all run on 110-115V single phase. The two non-contact geodyna models do not: the 7800P and the 8200P are both listed at 230V. Worth noting: the Corghi ET1450 WL and ET88M/WL are truck and bus balancers that still run on 110V, 1Ph.
Is a fully automatic balancer worth it over a gauge arm?
It depends on volume and on who operates it. Semi-automatic machines still require the technician to touch the rim with the gauge arm; the automatic machines detect dimensions and select the balancing mode, weight type and weight position with no manual input. One counterintuitive spec, before you assume more automation means more capacity: the geodyna 8200P has a maximum wheel diameter of 37 in., smaller than the 42 in. of the 7400L and 7600P.
Which models handle motorcycle wheels?
The Hofmann geodyna 7100M (EEWB761AM) is described as a balancer for motorcycles, cars and light trucks, and its listing states it includes an adapter for motorcycle wheel balancing. The iDEAL WB-953-B-MCAB-K includes a motorcycle kit with a 14 mm shaft and cones up to 1-1/8 in., covering motorcycle tire diameters of 14 1/2 in. to 32 in. The JMC WB-CB66-VE ships with SUV, Car and Motorcycle modes standard, and the Corghi Service Pro 750 lists software for motorcycles and scooters. The Tuxedo WB-953 inside the three JMC combo packages ships with Car and Motorcycle balancing modes standard. (The optional motorcycle adapter listed in those packages belongs to the TC-530 and TC-950 tire changers, not to the balancer.)
What is the difference between the Ranger RB24T and the RB30T?
They are not simply older and newer. The RB24T is the higher-capacity machine: 400 lb. tire against 330 lb., 50 in. tire against 49.25 in., a 30 in. wheel against a 13 in. to 24 in. range, and 2 in. to 20 in. of wheel width against 4 in. to 20 in. The RB30T is finer and faster on car wheels - 260 rpm and 1 gram increments, against 220 rpm and 0.25 or 0.01 oz - but on truck wheels it drops to 135 rpm and about 20 seconds, where the RB24T averages 7 to 10 seconds. The RS-RB30T is the RB30T with setup and training included.
What if a spec I need is not listed?
Spec sheets here are not uniform: the geodyna 7800P does not publish the separate semi-automatic and manual ranges the other geodyna models list, and the Corghi PL60 sheet marks maximum wheel width as N/A. Where a figure is missing, consult that model's spec sheet, or contact us with the wheel sizes you actually run.
