Tire Changers

This page lists 36 tire changer machines and tire changing accessories from seven brands: Hofmann, Corghi, CEMB, Ranger, iDEAL, AME International and JMC Equipment. Thirty are standalone tire changers, four are changer-plus-balancer combo packages, and two are shop accessories: an impact-driven demounter and a loose wheel nut indicator. Two of those listings, the Corghi BC200S and the Hofmann Monty 1270 + geodyna 7100 combo, are shown on the site but are not available to order online; call 800-562-4791 for their status. All equipment sold here is new.

The range runs from small-wheel machines - the iDEAL TC-400M-B clamps 6 in. to 24 in. outside, and the Corghi BC200S spec table lists 6 in. to 16 in. with its ATV kit - up to the Hofmann Monty 5800B, whose spec table lists a 14 in. to 58 in. rim clamping range. Picking between them comes down to the tower design, the rim and tire sizes that come through your bay, the power and air you have, and the space the machine needs. The tower designs are not interchangeable.

Tower designs, and what each one changes for the operator

Swing-arm

The mounting arm pivots aside, so the machine can sit against a wall. This is the most common design here: the Hofmann Monty 1270, 1575, 1620, 1625, 1625EM and 1685, the four CEMB SM825 and SM628 machines, and the Ranger R980XR, R980DP and R980DP-L.

Tilt-back or tilt-tower

The tower tilts back pneumatically to clear the turntable, so the wheel loads without being lifted over the arm and the duck head does not need readjusting between different wheel-and-tire combos. The Hofmann Monty 3300, 3300EM and 3550, the CEMB SM645HP2 and the Ranger R76ATR and R76ATR-L use it. It costs floor depth and saves setup movements.

Center-post

Instead of gripping the rim edge with jaws, a center-post machine clamps through the center bore. The Hofmann Monty 8100S and Monty 8700 both do this, and both listings give the reason: less potential wheel damage and less clamping constraint than a turntable. Both are rated to a 30 in. maximum rim diameter and include a pneumatic wheel lift rated at 154 lbs.

Leverless and touchless

These are the specialist machines for run-flat (RFT) and ultra-high-performance (UHP) tires. The Monty 8700 pairs a center post with the Powermont leverless mount and demount tool and a synchronized dual-disk bead breaker. Corghi goes further with its "Leva la leva" system on the A5000, Master J, MasterCode Base and MasterCode Visual L: the demounting tool never touches the rim during any working phase. All four are electric-only versions.

Heavy-duty truck and OTR

The Hofmann Monty 3850 (EEWH703AUA) clamps rims from 14 in. to 26 in., takes wheels up to 27.5 in. wide and 59 in. in diameter, and uses a self-centering four-jaw hydraulic chuck with a wired remote console so one technician can run it from a distance. The Monty 5800B goes to 14 in. to 58 in. clamping without extensions, a 98.5 in. maximum wheel diameter and a 4,409 lb. maximum wheel weight, with a chuck running at 4 or 8 rpm.

Motorcycle, ATV and small wheels

The iDEAL TC-400M-B is a motorcycle and ATV machine with a 6 in. to 24 in. outside clamping range, a 37 in. maximum wheel diameter, a 10 in. maximum wheel width and 5,500 lbs. of bead breaker force; its arm accepts wheels with disc brakes and transmission components still mounted. Its listing describes that arm as both swivel and swing - ask us which configuration ships. The Corghi BC200S motorcycle and ATV changer is also listed here, but it is not available to order online, and its own listing disagrees with itself on capacity: the spec table gives a 6 in. to 16 in. standard clamping capacity with the ATV kit, while the feature list claims three tool-free turntable positions from 5 in. to 23 in. The real capacity range on this page

Maximum rim diameter is the figure most shops check first. It runs 20 in. on the Monty 1270 and 1620; 24 in. on the Monty 1575, 1625, 1625EM, 3300, 3300EM and 1685; 26 in. on the Monty 3550, the Corghi Master J, and the CEMB SM628BPS and SM645HP2; 28 in. on the Corghi A5000; 30 in. on the Monty 8100S and 8700 and all five Ranger machines; and 32 in. on the Corghi MasterCode Base and Visual L, the widest rim range among the passenger and light truck machines. The two truck machines sit outside this ladder: the Monty 3850 clamps 14 in. to 26 in. and the Monty 5800B 14 in. to 58 in.

Maximum wheel diameter is the second gate, and it does not track rim diameter closely. The Monty 1270 and 3300 stop at 39 in. and the Monty 1575 at 40 in. The Ranger R76ATR is rated to 43 in. and the Corghi Master J to 43.31 in. All five CEMB machines reach 44 in. The Monty 3550 and the Corghi A5000 reach 47 in., and the MasterCode Base and Visual L 47.2 in. (the A5000 and the MasterCode listings both print 1200 mm). The Monty 1620, 1625 and 1685 and the Ranger R980XR, R980DP and R980DP-L top out at 50 in. Past that are the truck machines: 59 in. on the Monty 3850 and 98.5 in. on the Monty 5800B.

Two traps are worth knowing. A bead assist can cost capacity: the Monty 1625 is rated to a 50 in. wheel diameter, but the Monty 1625EM, the same machine with the pneumatic EasyMont pro assist, is rated to 42 in. And where a listing's marketing paragraph disagrees with its own spec table, work from the spec table: the Monty 1620 paragraph mentions 12 in. rim widths and 40 in. wheels while its table lists 14 in. and 50 in., and the Monty 5800B paragraph mentions 92 in. tires while its table gives 98.5 in.

Power, air and floor space

Voltage decides more installations than capacity does. Running on standard single-phase 110V or 115V: the Monty 1270, 1575, 1620, 1625, 1625EM, 3300 and 3300EM, the Monty 1685 single-speed (EEWH792AUC, 12A), four of the five CEMB machines, the iDEAL TC-400M-B, the Ranger R76ATR-L and R980DP-L, and the Tuxedo units in the combo packages. Needing 208V to 240V single-phase: the Monty 3550, 8100S and 8700, the Monty 1685 SmartSpeed (EEWH792AUD, 230V, 14A), the CEMB SM628BPS, and the Ranger R76ATR (the same machine as the R76ATR-L, in the higher voltage), R980XR and R980DP (the same machine as the R980DP-L). The Monty 3850 runs on 208V 1Ph and the Monty 5800B on 208V 3Ph, so three-phase service is a prerequisite for the 5800B.

Air requirements differ by brand: 116-174 PSI (8-12 bar) on the Hofmann passenger machines, 145 psi (10 bar) on CEMB (115-145 psi on the SM645HP2), 140-165 PSI on the Ranger R76ATR, R76ATR-L and R980XR, 8 bar minimum on the Corghi A5000, and 125 psi working pressure on the Tuxedo and iDEAL machines. Four listings publish no air figure: the Monty 3850 and 5800B, and the Ranger R980DP and R980DP-L. The 5800B drives its mounting tool and bead breaker with hydraulic cylinders, and the 3850 listing describes a hydraulically operated four-jaw chuck; the two Ranger machines are listed as electric/air but do not print a pressure, so ask for the spec sheet before you size the compressor.

Hofmann publishes height by width by depth on every standalone machine listed here. The compact end is the Monty 1270 and 1620 at 68 in. x 47 in. x 49 in.; the Monty 1625 and 1625EM are 82 in. x 49 in. x 52 in.; and the Monty 1685 is the tallest passenger unit at 87 in. The truck machines need their own bay: 58 in. x 83 in. x 83 in. for the Monty 3850 and 79 in. x 167 in. x 83 in. for the Monty 5800B. Where a dimension is not printed, check the model spec sheet. The Monty 1270 + geodyna 7100 combo listing carries no dimensions and no spec table at all; ask for the spec sheet of each unit.

Certifications and warnings declared on these listings

None of the 36 listings here publish an ALI, ETL or ASME certification mark, so no such claim is made. The five Ranger listings each carry a California Prop 65 warning. On California sales tax, three Ranger listings name Ranger, the R980DP and R980DP-L listings name BendPak, and the iDEAL TC-400M-B and the three Tuxedo combo packages name Tuxedo. All say the same thing: tax is collected on orders shipped to California. If a certification matters for your installation or your insurer, ask for the model documentation first.

Combo packages, accessories and freight

Three JMC Equipment packages pair a Tuxedo changer with the Tuxedo WB-953 balancer, which takes 10 in. to 24 in. rims up to a 39 in. wheel diameter and balances to 1 gram. The CK-TC530-WB953 uses the TC-530 changer (38 in. wheel diameter, 3 in. to 12 in. wheel width); the CK-TC950-WB953 uses the TC-950 (47 in. wheel diameter, 15 in. to 28 in. inside clamp); and the CK-TC950WPA-WB953 adds its press arm. A fourth combo listing pairs the Hofmann Monty 1270 with the geodyna 7100 balancer, but it is not available to order online and publishes no specifications; call 800-562-4791 for its status.

Two AME International accessories round out the category. The AME 71025 is an impact-driven universal demounter that works with any 1/2 in. impact and covers 10 in. ATV tires through commercial truck and agricultural tires, including 19.5 in. reverse hub truck tires. The AME 62438 is a 38 mm Checkmate loose wheel nut indicator in high-visibility polyurethane, sold in bags of 100.

Four listings publish a flat per-unit freight charge to the contiguous 48 states: $395 on the iDEAL TC-400M-B, $455 on the CK-TC530-WB953 and $515 on both CK-TC950 packages, with Alaska, Hawaii and limited-access locations excluded. These are heavy crates - the CEMB listings publish 630 lbs. to 950 lbs. (three of them as machine weight, not shipping weight) and the Corghi MasterCode models 1,311.8 lbs. - and the Ranger listings put unloading on the buyer, so confirm the crated weight and arrange a forklift or liftgate in advance.

Frequently asked questions

Swing-arm or tilt-back: which one should I buy?

A swing-arm machine pivots the arm aside and can be installed against a wall, which is the better use of a tight bay. A tilt-back tower clears the turntable for loading and handles a mixed run of wheel sizes with fewer readjustments. A narrow bay and repetitive work point to a swing arm such as the Monty 1625 or CEMB SM825EVO; a wide mix of wheel-and-tire combinations points to the Monty 3550, CEMB SM645HP2 or Ranger R76ATR.

What is the largest wheel these machines can handle?

For passenger and light truck work, the Corghi MasterCode Base and Visual L are rated 13 in. to 32 in. rim diameter with a 47.2 in. maximum tire diameter. The Monty 8100S and 8700 and the Ranger machines reach 30 in. For commercial vehicles, the Monty 3850 clamps 14 in. to 26 in. rims up to 59 in. in diameter, and the Monty 5800B clamps 14 in. to 58 in.

Do I need 220V service, or will 110V work?

Many of them run on standard single-phase 110V or 115V, including eight Hofmann Monty listings, four of the five CEMB machines, the iDEAL TC-400M-B, the 110V versions of two Ranger machines (the R76ATR-L and the R980DP-L) and the Tuxedo units in the combo packages. The higher-output machines want 208V to 240V single-phase, and the Monty 5800B requires three-phase. Corghi lists a 230V supply with a low-voltage alternative on the A5000 and Master J (110V) and on the MasterCode Base and Visual L (115V), so specify voltage when you order; the BC200S is the exception, offered as 230V single-phase or 230-400V three-phase only.

Is a touchless or leverless machine worth the step up?

It depends on how much run-flat and ultra-high-performance work you take in and what a damaged rim costs you. The Corghi touchless machines mount and demount without the tool ever contacting the rim, and their sheets state handling of conventional, low-profile and run-flat tires. The Monty 8700 reaches a similar result with a Powermont leverless tool and a center-post clamp. At lower RFT volume, a machine with a press or bead-assist arm covers most of the same jobs: the CEMB SM645HP2, whose HP2 press arm is described for run-flat and UHP tires, or the Monty 1625EM, whose EasyMont pro assist is described for low-profile, high-performance and run-flat tires.

Can one machine cover cars, motorcycles and truck tires?

No single machine here covers all three. Motorcycle, scooter and ATV wheels need a dedicated unit such as the iDEAL TC-400M-B, though the Ranger R76ATR and R76ATR-L list motorcycle turntable clamps as an optional accessory sold separately, and the Tuxedo changers in the combo packages list an optional motorcycle adapter. The Ranger R980XR lists motorcycle turntable clamps among its features without marking them optional, so confirm with us whether they are included before you order. Truck and OTR wheels require the Monty 3850 or Monty 5800B.

What comes in the box, and what is sold separately?

It varies by model. The Monty 1685 ships with a tire lever, lube brush and bucket, bead breaker blade protector, rim protector, head protector kit and jaw protectors, while the bead pressing roller, bead clamp and quick exchange device are sold separately. The Ranger R76ATR includes alloy-steel and nylon mount-demount heads, water filter, oiler, air regulator and the TurboBlast bead seating system.
