  • Symmetrical or asymmetrical, which is the best choice?
  • Height, space, depth; all measurements
  • workshop owner or enthusiast, which is best for you?

There are decisions you make in life that don't need to be explained. And choosing a lift is one of them; and whether it is a 2 post or a 4 post is the most difficult one. In this article we will explain in a quick and easy way the difference between a 2 post and a 4 post lift so you can buy yours.

2 Post Lift

When choosing a 2 post car lift, it is important to take into account several aspects: one of them is that when you lift the vehicle the car is not on its wheels and tires, the arms go up right under the frame, and you can approach the car, take off the wheels, do a brake job and start working on the suspension components. This is a convenient job for a shop given the ease of checking bearings, suspension, oil changes, lowering the transmission, checking the oil pan and everything else you can do underneath your vehicle.

A great advantage of the 2 post lift is that it takes up much less space than other lifts, plus it is a much more economical tool. You can get a 2 post lift for your shop for up to $3,000. It is an economical, practical and useful tool for any workshop.

Another great advantage is that you don't need so much space. For a lift; for example, for a 10,000 pound lift you only need between 360 and 370 centimeters high and 6 to 8 inches of concrete to attach the bolts to the floor.

4 Post Lift

A 4 post lift has two main functions; storage and lifting for under vehicle inspection. If you want a complete check of your vehicle, which does not involve lifting from the wheels, - since the 4 post lift lifts your vehicle from the wheels - you will have to use a jack bridge that is located between the lift tracks.

In a 4 post lift you can store your Honda Civic project, your ford 150 or your porsche and underneath put your boring day to day vehicle and on weekends do the pending work underneath your vehicle to tune it up. You decide, because it is specially designed for mechanics and enthusiasts and for storage.

This lift is much larger so it takes up much more space across the width. However, most 4 post lifts are only about 7 feet tall, so if you have limited ceiling height, you may have to opt for a 4 post lift.

For example, a 9000 pound 4 post lift needs a height of between 275 to 280 inches in height and a concrete depth of 6 to 8 inches for the floor coupling bolts.
